"At last, the true Brave that we've been waiting for has been born. The name is...The King of Braves, GaoGaiGar!"
— The narrator's introduction speech after GaoGaiGar's first Final Fusion, GaoGaiGar Episode 1. —

GBR-01 GaoGaiGar (ガオガイガー) is the titular Brave Robot of The King of Braves GaoGaiGar TV series. The first Super Mechanoid built by GGG, it is formed from the Final Fusion (ファイナルフュージョン), also known as the Superhuman Combination (超人合体 - Choujin Gattai) of the Mechanoid GaiGar and the Gao-Machines Liner Gao, Drill Gao & Stealth Gao. Later on in the series, by combining with the Brave Robot GoldyMarg, GaoGaiGar is capable of wielding the powerful Goldion Hammer.

GaoGaiGar is usually piloted by the cyborg Guy Shishiou, although Galeon can still assume control if required (when Guy loses consciousness in combat for example), along with being co-piloted by Reo Shishiou, Geki Hyuuma and Kazuo Ushiyama in Episode 15, and loaded with the Super AI units of HyouRyuu, EnRyuu, FuuRyuu, RaiRyuu and Volfogg in Episode 49, as both GaoGaiGar and Star GaoGaiGar.

When the 31 Machine Primevals began their invasion of Earth, GaoGaiGar was upgraded into the space-use Star GaoGaiGar (スターガオガイガー) by modifying the Stealth Gao into Stealth Gao II. Starting from The King of Braves GaoGaiGar FINAL, GaoGaiGar was replaced by GaoFighGar, and eventually, Genesic GaoGaiGar. It is also further succeeded in the 2017 The King of Kings ~GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman~ novel/manga by GaoGaiGo.

During GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman, the Galeon of 2005 was temporarily brought to the future in 2017 and used as a combat force of GGG Green, combining with the updated versions of the first-generation Gao-Machines to form GaoGaiGar. This GaoGaiGar can now combine with the simple AI robot DoubleMarg or the Brave Robot GoldyDoubleMarg to wield the Goldion Double Hammer. Furthermore, it can fuse with Betterman Cataphract through Rakan's Pectofores Sanctus and turn into Musou GaoGaiGar.

Overview[]

In order for GaoGaiGar to be formed through the Final Fusion, the chief of GGG, Koutarou Taiga, must first approve the combination from the GGG headquarters, within the Main Order Room. The operator there, usually being Mikoto Utsugi (or Swan White if Mikoto is absent), proceeds to slam on the big red "DANGER" button covered behind a plane of safety glass, initiating the Program Drive command for the Final Fusion. During Final Fusion, GaiGar spins around while releasing a special green foam from its skirt armor, forming an electromagnetic tornado around itself to prevent any interference to the combination. Some enemies however have been able to pierce through the tornado, but fortunately they were quickly thwarted and pushed back outside by GaiGar itself or by the other Braves.

Although Guy does the main piloting of GaoGaiGar, Galeon can still take over the controls if necessary, shown when the Super AI activated Protect Shade to defend GaoGaiGar from EI-18's Grand Nova (with heat levels equal to the Sun), as Guy had already passed out from the Nova's heat.

Equipment and Abilities[]

Fixed[]

GaoGaiGar's built-in weapons are essentially upscaled versions of the powers displayed by people of the Green Planet. The right arm represents the power of destruction, while the left arm represents protection.

GaoGaiGar's main offensive weapon, representing the side of "Destruction". The Super Mechanoid's right forearm section will spin at high speeds and then be launched at the enemy in a Rocket Punch-like attack. An interesting note is that GaoGaiGar's forearm will spin anticlockwise while the fist will spin clockwise, the entire forearm glowing red in the process.

GaoGaiGar's main defensive equipment, representing the side of "Purification". A protection field is generated as GaoGaiGar positions its left hand into a shield-like shape. When countering energy attacks, the Protect Shade can rearrange the energy blast into a star shape and send it back at the enemy.

A technique that can be performed during Protect Shade, where GaoGaiGar discharges electricity from its left hand to hold the target in place. It was only used twice, against EI-03 and against Zonuda Robo.

Drill Gao's drill cones, now mounted on GaoGaiGar's knees. They are used for kicking attacks.

A Hyper Tool used by GaoGaiGar in order to minimize collateral damage to surrounding areas during combat, utilizing the power of protection embeded into GaoGaiGar's left arm, developed from schematics of Genesic GaoGaiGar's Bolting Driver. It is launched from the Triple-Decked Flying Carrier or the Landing and Supply Assault Ship when required on the battlefield, with GaoGaiGar equipping the Driver on its left arm mid-air and ramming the Driver down to the ground when using it. The Dividing Driver allows GaoGaiGar to create a "Dividing Field" of 15 kilometers in diameter by generating an Arresting Field and a Repression Field simultaneously, essentially creating a battlefield so that GaoGaiGar can freely combat the opponent without risk to the surrounding infrastructure. After about 50 minutes, the Dividing Field will collapse, meaning that anything that is still within the field will be crushed from the collapsing forces. The Dimension Plier (see below) were later created specifically for GaoGaiGar to escape in a situation like this. The Dividing Driver can only be used once per sortie, as each use will drain the Driver's Dividing Core completely.

Aside from being used to generate a battlefield to fight, the equipment can also be used in ingenious ways, such as creating a water pressure-resistant bubble for a deep-sea mission (Episode 10), preventing a bomb shell from hitting GaoGaiGar at point-blank range (Episode 16) or opening a hole in a near-inescapable "Klein Space" in conjunction with the Gatling Driver (Episode 46). The Dividing Driver is replaced with the Gatling Driver during space missions as the old Driver cannot manipulate vacuum space, aside from the one occasion in Episode 46 as mentioned above.

In The King of Braves GaoGaiGar FINAL, a modular version of the Dividing Driver and Gatling Driver is built for GaoFighGar's use, separating the "bit" and the Dividing Core. The Dividing Driver configuration is referred to as "Kit Number 03" and is launched from Division VII: Tsukuyomi. In GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman, it seems that different Dividing Driver kits with varying effect radius are prepared for GGG's Super Mechanoids, with a Dividing Driver designated as "Kit Number 09" being used by GaoGaiGo, and a Driver designated as "Kit Number 02" being used by GaoFighGar.

The Pliers, respectively known as DP-C1, DP-R2 and DP-L3, are a trio of simple-AI robots designed by Raiga Shishiou at NASA for use with GaoGaiGar, originally serving as a countermeasure to the Dividing Driver by combining into the Dimension Plier. DP-C1 is the calm and collected leader, DP-R2 likes to pose, while DP-L3 has a faulty sense of balance and often trips over. They are equipped with minaturized GS-Drives, and have little more than basic Three Laws of Programming installed, however they are still capable of independent action, such as carrying the Goldion Hammer to GaoGaiGar. The Pliers cannot talk and can only communicate in bleeps, since much of their AI's processing power is allocated for predicting the restoration pattern used by the Dimension Plier to repair warped space. They, when required, the Pliers can also perform a makeshift attack by combining into a single long plier and ram into the enemy like a drill (used against EI-26). They were later mass-produced as part of the Carpenters.

The Pliers combine into the Dimension Plier, also known as the Multipurpose Field-Bending Tool. DP-C1 forms the jaws and pivot, DP-R2 forms the right arm connector, and DP-L3 forms the left arm connector, as the Plier docks with both of GaoGaiGar's forearms. The Plier is used to erase warped dimensional spaces, which takes the appearance of literally grabbing the space in question with the Plier and throwing it away, with the residual energy dispersed upwards similar to ChouRyuuJin's Eraser Head. It was prepared in the event that GaoGaiGar could not escape from the Dividing Field in time, preventing the Super Mechanoid from being crushed by the collapsing fields. Aside from that, it had also been used to wield the Goldion Hammer as a temporary solution to prevent GaoGaiGar from taking damage before GoldyMarg was completed, however the Pliers were damaged instead.

A giant hammer containing an artificial gravity well at its center that generates a gravity shockwave, instantaneously accelerating all particles in contact with said shockwave to the speed of light, thus transforming them into photons. Developed based on data from Genesic GaoGaiGar's Goldion Nails, the Hammer was designed as a new finishing weapon for GaoGaiGar due to Guy's health complications caused by his repeated usage of Hell and Heaven. The Hammer has more than enough power to pulverize the Zonder Robos. King J-Der's Generating Armor can hold off the Hammer for a time - the only forces known to have blocked the Hammer completely were Zonuda Robo's invulnerable Barrier System (sublimating the Hammer in the process), and Repli-Star GaoGaiGar's Hell and Heaven (which destroyed the Hammer).

In order for GaoGaiGar to use the Hammer, approval from Koutarou Taiga is required, signified by the Chief pulling out a key from his personal keyholder and turning it in the keyhole on an activation panel, which will unveil another computer system to the operator (usually Mikoto), followed by the operator revealing a card and swiping it on a slot in the new panel, activating the Goldion Hammer.

Initially, wielding the Hammer directly caused severe damage to GaoGaiGar. This situation was temporary resolved by using the Dimension Plier to wield the Hammer (which damaged the Plier instead), however a permanent solution was still needed, so the Hyper Tool was incorporated into GGG's Super-AI robot GMX-GH101 GoldyMarg, using the "Marg Hand" system in order to properly channel and control the Hammer's power. If required, the hammer section can be detached from the handle.

As seen in FINAL, it is possible for the Hammer to self-detonate, releasing a custom shockwave that was able to destroy the entire Mobile Unit, the Carpenter fleet, and the Orbit Base replicated by Pisa Sol. When GaoGaiGar wields the Goldion Hammer, it gains a golden coloration, an effect which extends to Guy's armor as well. In Episode 43.2, the hammer can be wielded by King J-Der as one of the battle situations that the player can choose, covering the hammer in a silver color, which Soldato-J dubs as the "Silverion Hammer".

  • Marg Hand (マーグハンド)

The rest of GoldyMarg's body, now acting as GaoGaiGar's oversized right forearm to utilize the Goldion Hammer.

If required, the Marg Hand can be launched at the enemy in a similar manner to the Broken Magnum. Only seen in Episode 43.2 as one of the possible battle situations the player can choose.

  • Type: Emergency Tool for G-Hammer (Prototype)
  • Length:42.5 m
  • Weight: 777 t
  • Maximum Energy Consumption Rate: 1023 J/s
  • Burst Duration: 60 ms

Technical name: Counter Gravity Shockwave Generator. A gigantic Hyper Tool modeled after a jackhammer, developed by Professor Tohru Nozaki at the America GGG Space Center as a countermeasure to the Goldion Hammer in the event that the weapon is used against GGG. Through generating a powerful Gravity Burst, the Goldion Motor acts as a friction absorber, rapidly increasing the energy dispersion rate of the Gravity Shockwave created by the Goldion Hammer, thus cancelling out the Gravity Shockwave entirely. Due to the Goldion Hammer's control program having already been perfected as evident through many victories using Hammer Hell and Heaven however, the Goldion Motor became obsolete, and thus remained in storage at the America GGG Space Center, where alternative applications for the Hyper Tool are being researched on by the staff there, including Professor Akiko Hirata.

During Episode 43.2 from the PS game Blockaded Numbers, the tool ended up being absorbed by the combined Zonder Robo formed from EI-72 and EI-73, which caused the Goldion Hammer to have no effect on it. It was permanently lost when the coreless combined Zonder Robo was pulverized by either the Grand Pressure or the Silverion Hammer. A second Goldion Motor was created and stored within Amaterasu, but it was once again taken in by the enemy (in this case Zonuda Robo), along with the Grand Pressure and Amaterasu's left section.

A G-Tool developed from specifications of Mic Sounders the 13th' Disc X, it is a gigantic circular pod comprised of two halves, modeled after a pressure cooker. Its use requires the direct, confirmed authorization of the UN Secretary General. Once authorization is granted, a panel on the console of the relevant operator (Mikoto Utsugi) rotates to reveal a palm-reading sensor, to which a data-gloved right hand is applied. When used, the Grand Pressure splits into 2 and connects to both of GaoGaiGar's arms. There are a total of 5 stages in the usage of the tool:

  • Pod Open (ポッドオープン): GaoGaiGar opens up the pod and then surrounds the enemy between the 2 halves of the pod.
  • First Lock (ファーストロック): Utilizng GaoGaiGar's Protect Shade's properties, the 2 halves of the Grand Pressure are instantaneously fastened together, trapping the enemy inside the pod.
  • Second Lock (セカンドロック): GaoGaiGar's right arm rapidly spins, enabling the orange bars on the side of the Grand Pressure to rotate horizontally into locking position, finishing the Second Lock.
  • Final Lock (ファイナルロック): The middle section of the Grand Pressure is then sealed together properly.
  • The last stage will be the activation of the Grand Pressure - the enemy is bombarded with G-Stone energy that causes them to compress and shatter. Like Disc X, this energy can be tuned to only destroy a certain type of material, which in this case, ensures the safety of the Zonder Cores. The energy generated from the destruction of the enemy unit will be sent upwards in a similar manner to the Eraser Head used by ChouRyuuJin.

The maximum output of the Grand Crusher surpasses even that of the Goldion Hammer's immeasurable output, while also offering easier handling. The Hyper Tool's operation concept means that it can only be used against enemies which can fit inside the pod to begin with however, tremendously limiting its usage during large-scale battles. The Grand Pressure ended up being absorbed by Zonuda Robo along with the second Goldion Motor and the Amaterasu's left section.

  • Weight: 1,200 t
  • Power Supply: GS-Ride (unequipped)
  • Propulsion: G-Drive Floating Thruster
  • Edge Sliding Support: Y/T Cartridge x8
  • Maximum Output: 2,500,000 kw

An immensely powerful Hyper Tool modeled after a Japanese woodworking plane. Similar to the Goldion Hammer, it is an equipment capable of absolute matter annihilation to be used in decisive battles. Through the high-speed back-and-forth movement of the central ram section, assisted by lubrication from G-Liquid and sliding force generated from 8 explosive cartridges on the sides of the Plane, an anti-meson field is generated, which destroys the atomic structure of the matter it comes into contact with, completely annihilating the target. The released particles are then coated with an unreactive hi-polymer liquid to render them harmless to the surrounding environment, giving the impression that the target has been "turned into grains". The Hyper Tool is also equipped with a cockpit block at the front and flight thrusters located below, allowing it to be quickly delivered to the front lines.

Though a powerful Hyper Tool indeed, the Molecule Plane was incapable of narrowing down its effective range to a single area like the Goldion Hammer, and doesn't have a core extraction mechanism as seen in Hammer Hell and Heaven, which may result in the jeopardization of Zonder/Primeval Cores when used against Zonder Robos/Primevals. After all, the Molecule Plane was completed in March 2005, one month prior to the appearance of EI-02, so there was no way GGG could have known about the existence of Zonder Cores. Its unwieldy size and small effective range also obstructs its usage in large-scale battles, similar to the Grand Pressure. Due to all of these reasons, the Hyper Tool ended up being shelved away in the deepest section of the deactivated Division Ship Futsunushi, with its GS-Ride removed.

The Molecule Plane was first brought into action in October 2005, during the Battle of Paris, against the BioNet robot G-Gigantesque. The GunDober's GS-Ride was initially used to power the Tool, however it couldn't withstand the required energy consumption and was nearly burnt out. Thus, Renais Kerdif Shishiou volunteered to become its energy source instead using the G-Stone on her arm. With the Molecule Plane equipped on GaoGaiGar, even the regeneration ability G-Gigantesque gained from incorporating the stolen Futsunushi's Creation Furnace was no match against its destructive power, ending in GaoGaiGar completely obliterating the robot after 3 consecutive attacks.

After the Battle of Paris, the Molecule Plane was put into storage once more and properly maintained. 11 years later, in 2017, the Molecule Plane was stored within deck number 3 of the Division XI Yamatsumi when the Division Train took off to Jupiter as part of Project Z, before being used by GaoGaiGo to destroy ZR-01 and the swarm of ZR-02s manifesting on the Division Train near Jupiter's vicinity.

A G-Double Tool developed from the Goldion Hammer. True to its name, the Tool now consists of two hammers instead of one, which connect at the handle to form a double-headed hammer. On top of each hammer lies an orb, which are deployed when the Double Hammer is in "Clacker Mode" - the orbs detach from the Double Hammer and circle around it like a clacker toy, linked to the Hammer using Plasma Hold. A pair of simple AI units: "Castor", which controls the Goldion Hammer function in "Mode Castor", and "Pollux", which controls the Goldion Motor function in "Mode Pollux", are built into each orb respectively. As mentioned, the Goldion Double Hammer incorporates the functionality of both the Goldion Hammer and the Goldion Motor, along with a brand-new third function: Mode Gemini/Slicer Mode, which has the gravity shockwaves generated from Mode Castor precisely adjusted into a thin plane using Mode Pollux's frictional absorption, allowing for the gravity shockwaves to be unleashed in an accurate slicing attack. As the gravity shockwave generators are equipped within the clacker orbs, the orbs themselves can be sent to rapidly attack the target with consecutive destructive blows. Since the shockwave generators are stored within the orbs, it is presumed that the frictional absorbers are built within the hammer heads. While its raw power in a single strike may not match that of the original Goldion Hammer, the Goldion Double Hammer is by far much easier to handle, and incorporates more convenient functions. Since the Goldion Double Hammer is used in tandem with the original Marg Hand, Hammer Hell and Heaven can still be executed.

In order for GaoGaiGar to use the Double Hammer, approval from GGG Blue or GGG Green's Chief is required. Two card swiping slots will then appear on the corresponding operator's computer system, followed by the operator (in this case Alouette) revealing a pair of cards and swiping them both on the slots.

Attacks[]

GaoGaiGar brings its hands together, with the pilot chanting "Gemu, Giru, Gan, Go, Gufo", a chant derived from the Latin language (meaning "2 Powers Into 1"). An electromagnetic tornado then gathers around the enemy and traps them in a gravity lock. After that, GaoGaiGar utilizes Stealth Gao's thrusters and Drill Gao's treads to charge into the enemy, smashing its fists into the enemy core and tearing it out. When using this attack, GaoGaiGar's body turns green due to the supercharged energy released from the G-Stone. This is the method Guy uses to destroy Zonder Robos and retrieve their cores for the first half of the TV series. However, this technique causes extreme physical strain to the Guy's cybernetics and could lead to death if used repeatedly. Upon defeating EI-15, Guy suffered a major collapse and was left very close to death, highlighting the danger of using Hell and Heaven for even one more time. To act as a substitute for the dangerous technique, Hammer Hell and Heaven, via GoldyMarg and the Goldion Hammer, was devised. After evolving into an Evoluder however, Guy can use Hell and Heaven for as many times as he likes without the risk of damaging his body, although he still prefers using Hammer Hell and Heaven more to reduce collateral damage.

After the repeated use of Hell and Heaven proved to be life-threatening to Guy, a new finishing move was devised for GaoGaiGar, known as Hammer Hell and Heaven, utilizing the Goldion Hammer and GoldyMarg. The attack is divided into 2 main phases. For phase 1, after combining with GoldyMarg, GaoGaiGar pulls out a long, solid energy nail, known as the Hammer Hell, from the Marg Hand's front tire and impale it towards the enemy's core, then secures it in place with a Goldion Hammer strike. The nail doesn't actually "pierce" the core, but instead reformats its tip into 5 claw-like protrusions that will secure the core to the nail. For phase 2, the red nail-removing claw, known as the Hammer Heaven, mounted on the top of the Marg Hand (GoldyMarg's front leg section) is used by GaoGaiGar to pull the Hammer Hell back out, bringing the enemy's core with it. Hammer Hell then dissipates, causing the enemy's core to fall into GaoGaiGar's left hand. Finally, GaoGaiGar pulverizes the enemy's coreless remains with the Goldion Hammer to prevent collateral damage from its explosion, rendering the enemy's body into photons. As there are 2 Hammer Heavens and 2 inner side tires on the Marg Hand, 2 Cores can be extracted at the same time.

The technique is still executable using the Goldion Double Hammer, but this has only been seen in Super Robot Wars.

  • Diamond Formation (ダイヤモンドフォーメーション)

A special combat formation performed by GaoGaiGar, ChouRyuuJin, Big Volfogg, and the Pliers, used to defeat EI-19. GaoGaiGar equips the Dimension Plier to wield the Goldion Hammer, while Big Volfogg covers himself with Mirror Coating and uses ChouRyuuJin's Double Rifle as a launching pad to propel himself, retrieving the hostages and the Zonder core stuck inside EI-19. GaoGaiGar then pulverizes the Zonder remains into light right after.

  • Broken Phantom (ブロウクンファントム)

Also known as "Formation F". Seen in GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman, this is GaoGaiGar's greatest attack, different from the ones used by Star GaoGaiGar, GaoFighGar, or GaoGaiGo. During the decisive battle against Conquerer King Genesic at Antartica in Chapter 9, the intangible Wall Ring deployed over Earth's equator as part of the Global Wall project to block out powerful electromagnetic waves was transformed into a Phantom Ring, a function developed by Shigeru Akamatsu and Yang Long Li and further perfected by Raiga Shishiou. Combined with the united thoughts and courage from people all across the world, converted into power through the Hyper GS-Rides built into the 6 equator-located G-Circulation Bases which transmits G-Liquid into 6 Wall Ring satellites in orbit, the gigantic Phantom Ring became further supercharged with energy, growing to 84400 km in diameter. The Phantom Ring was then moved towards Antartica, right above where GaoGaiGar is located, and then compressed to 3 km in diameter while still retaining the same amount of energy, allowing GaoGaiGar to raise up his right arm and "equip" the Phantom Ring. The Broken Phantom was then unleashed against the dimensional tear connecting to the Orange Site opened up in Antartica skies by Conquerer King Genesic's Galeoria Road, successfully pushing back the immense flow of Triple Zero leaking out from there. The tear was then closed up using the Dimension Pliers.

  • Broken Lancer (ブロウクンランサー)

A combination attack with Baan Gaan of the Brave Series. GaoGaiGar fires the Broken Magnum while Baan Gaan throws his Twin Lancer at the enemy in tandem. Seen in Brave Saga 2 along with its manga version.

  • Graviton Magnum (グラビトンマグナム)

A combination attack with Victorion of the Brave Series, seen in the game Brave Saga 2. GaoGaiGar launches the Broken Magnum as Victorion flings one of his Victory Saucers in tandem at the enemy.

  • GGG Pico Pico Hammer (GGGピコピコハンマー)

A sort of "combination attack" between GaoGaiGar, GoldyMarg and Usarin Mk-II of the Brave Series, seen in the game Brave Saga 2. While GaoGaiGar is attempting to initiate Hammer Hell and Heaven, Usarin Mk-II barges in midway, pushes GaoGaiGar aside, takes the Goldion Hammer for herself, with the mecha's pilot, Sharanla Sheathluth innocently announcing "I'll be borrowing this~" before Usarin pulverizes the enemy with the Hammer. It can be seen that Usarin Mk-II's body also turns gold when wielding the Goldion Hammer.

History[]

TV Series[]

GaoGaiGar was constructed in 2003, after information found in Galeon's databanks revealed the extent of the Zonder threat. He was first deployed in response to the emergence of EI-02 from Garbage Island 2 years after, marking the beginning of a long-running war against the Zonders. GaoGaiGar saw the vast majority of direct combat during this time, and always remained the most powerful unit in GGG's arsenal. He was also given the widest variety of support tools and units, including the Dividing Driver and Dimension Pliers, as well as eventually the Goldion Hammer. During the final showdown against EI-01 at Tokyo, GaoGaiGar, GoldyMarg, ChouRyuuJin and Big Volfogg entered Projectile-X and became supercharged with G-Stone power, enabling them to defeat the Zonder boss in an all-out assault. The Braves were left in a near-death state following the battle due to power overload, and would have perished if not for Mamoru Amami bringing them back to life with his abilities.

The 31 Machine Primevals soon began their invasion on Earth, starting with the appearance of Primevals ZX-01, ZX-02 and ZX-03. The fearsome Primevals obliterated the Bay Tower Base, though the Hexagon command center managed to quickly escape to space in time with its Ultra Technology Engine. With the other Braves still rendered unconscious from the effects of Projectile X, GaoGaiGar sortied alone to intercept the new enemies, but was quickly overpowered and badly damaged. Fortunately, the giant Meganoid King J-Der arrived just in time to dispatch the Primevals, saving GaoGaiGar from certain destruction. Following restoration, the Stealth Gao was upgraded with an Ul-Tech Engine, vastly increasing GaoGaiGar's power to the point where he could stand against the Primevals. The second major upgrade was the Space Booster, a set of option parts for Stealth Gao that converted it into StealthGao II, increasing GaoGaiGar's capabilities at the same time. With these parts equipped, GaoGaiGar was known as Star GaoGaiGar.

When the New Machine Species appeared in Tokyo one month following the defeat of the Z-Master, GaoGaiGar was loaded with 5 of the Mobile Unit Super-AIs in the cockpits of its GaoMachines. With their combined courage and Guy's unflagging resolve, GaoGaiGar emerged victorious after a toe-to-toe final showdown against Zonuda Robo. In the aftermath, Mamoru Amami and Galeon would leave for space (unbeknownst to all at the time, they had been called to the Trinary Solar System, to prepare for the coming of the 11 Planetary Masters of Sol). With its core component missing, GaoGaiGar never saw future use (that is, until GaoGaiGar vs Betterman), though its legacy would live on in its Earth-made successor, the Reborn King of Braves GaoFighGar.

GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman[]

In 2017, the Somnium Deus used the Fruit of Tempus to travel back in time to 2005, specifically after GaoGaiGar had just ripped out EI-02's core, along with Conquerer GaoGaiGo and Lamia's Betterman team. Deus attempted to "change" the course of history by having GaoGaiGar and Betterman Cataphract defeat Conquerer GaoGaiGo, thus giving the GGG of that era a chance to study the battle and further enhance their technology and tactics, benefitting humanity in the future. All of the 6 Somniums inside Cataphract did not agree to this plan however, pointing out that they will just end up creating a new, branching timeline, making it impossible for them to return to the original 2017 they knew using the Fruit of Tempus. Rejecting Deus' plan, Cataphract erased all evidence of future entities meddling in 2005, before using the Fruit of Tempus sack Rice stole from Deus to travel back to 2017, pulling a purified GaoGaiGo along the way. Before going straight back to 2017, Cataphract took a detour and pulled along the uncombined Galeon following the battle against EI-02.

After finally reaching 2017, amidst the battle against Conquerer King King J-Der, Galeon immediately sprang into action and conducted Fusion with a confused but joyous Guy into GaiGar. After the deployment of the updated first-generation Gao-Machines was approved, GaiGar further performed Final Fusion into GaoGaiGar, at last returning to the battlefield after 11 years. As GaoGaiGar was about to charge towards Conquerer King King J-Der, Betterman Cataphract appeared before GaoGaiGar and offered him their assistance, which resulted in the two entities merging as one through Pectofores Sanctus, forming Musou GaoGaiGar.

Following the reclamation of King J-Der and Tomoro 0117 from Triple Zero, GaoGaiGar was once again deployed in the showdown against Conquerer King Genesic in Antartica. Despite combining with GoldyDoubleMarg early in the battle and cooperating with GaoFighGar, GaoGaiGo, King J-Der, Kakuseijin V2, and Betterman Cataphract, the struggle was still very much in the favor of Genesic, with Sakura Akamatsu held hostage inside StraightGao due to the work of Deus. Conquerer King Genesic fired its Will Knife-attached Broken Magnum at GaoGaiGar, but GoldyDoubleMarg detached at the last second and took the hit for GaoGaiGar instead, causing him to explode into pieces, with much of the shrapnel hitting GaoGaiGar and downing the Super Mechanoid onto the snowy surface. After Conquerer King Genesic used up the last of the Triple Zero remaining inside it to unleash the Galeoria Road and open a dimensional rift linking to the Orange Site following the rescue of Sakura and the retrieval of Genesic Galeon's black box by Musou GaoGaiGo, GaoGaiGar stood up once more, and encouraged everyone to not give up despite the dire circumstances, before signalling the initiation of Formation F. GaoGaiGar equipped the gigantic 3 km wide intangible Phantom Ring generated from Formation F on his right forearm, before shooting the powerful Broken Phantom straight into the dimensional tear, successfully pushing back all of the Triple Zero leaking out. To finish the job, GaoGaiGar, GaoFighGar, GaoGaiGo, Kakuseijin V2, and even King J-Der, all equipped themselves with Dimension Pliers (with GaoGaiGar docking with the first trio of Pliers he was familiar with back in 2005) and properly sealed up the dimensional tear through spatial warping.

With Conquerer King Genesic finally defeated, GaoGaiGar was relieved of its mission, and Galeon was sent back to its time by Rice, right when it was previously moved from in order to prevent time paradoxes. Though, Galeon and Rice did return to 2017 for a short while to temporarily restrain Genesic GaiGar near the end of the final showdown between Final GaoGaiGar and Betterman Cataphract Terra.

Trivia[]

  • GaoGaiGar's design was created by prolific mechanical designer Kunio Okawara. He incorporates some homages to the mecha of previous Brave series (most visibly Brave Express Might Gaine, whose shoulder-train design is clearly visible with LinerGao, and Galeon's design with the attached mane is a perfect, and slightly redesigned, copy of that of Brave Exkaiser).
